Key Gompa, also known as Key Monastery, is an ancient and iconic Buddhist monastery located in the Spiti Valley near Manāli, India. Accessible via a scenic and somewhat challenging drive, the best time to visit is during the summer months (June to September) when the roads are clear of snow, making travel easier. Hiring a local guide or joining a tour is advisable for a richer cultural experience and to manage the journey through the rugged terrain more comfortably. Entry to the monastery is generally free, although donations are appreciated. Plan to spend around 2-3 hours exploring the monastery complex, soaking in the breathtaking views of the valley, and interacting with the resident monks. Remember to dress modestly and be respectful of the monastic environment.
