From airport to location
Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat in southwest Bolivia, is a surreal and breathtaking landscape offering unique photo opportunities and stunning vistas. Accessibility can be challenging due to the remote location and high altitude, requiring sturdy transportation, typically a 4x4 vehicle. While solo travel is possible, guided tours are highly recommended for navigation, safety, and cultural insights, often lasting from one to three days and costing between $100 to $300 depending on the duration and inclusions. The dry season (May to October) offers easier access and iconic reflective photos, while the wet season (December to April) transforms the salt flat into a giant mirror, but some areas become inaccessible. Be prepared for altitude sickness and bring appropriate clothing for extreme temperature variations. Remember to bring sunglasses and sunscreen due to the intense glare.
